How to Oil Your Paper Shredder

If you have a paper shredder, there is a good chance that you use it fairly often. Whether you're trying to protect yourself from identity theft or need to protect gepany secrets, your paper shredder is an important device and you need to keep it in good shape. The best way to do so is oiling it on a regular basis. There are three ways you can do this. Check them out:

The indirect method. To use this method, dampen a piece of paper with shredder oil and run it through your machine. After the paper is shredded, run the machine in reverse for a minute. This will distribute the oil to the various parts. That's it.
The direct method. This method involves applying shredder oil directly to the machine's feed opening. After you do this, shred a piece of paper and again, run the device in reverse. Be careful when applying the oil so you don't make a mess.
Automatic oiling. Depending on what kind of device you have, you may be able to get an automatic oiler for it. This device can be attached to your shredder and it will oil the machine on a regular schedule. Consult your shredder's instruction manual to find out if it can be equipped with one of these devices.
As you can see, it's pretty easy to oil your paper shredder. The main thing to remember is that you need to use specially formulated shredder oil. You can't oil your machine with motor oil, olive oil, etc. Using different types of oil can be messy and it may void your warranty. And don't forget to oil your shredderregularly. Read the machine's instruction manual to find out what kind of schedule you should follow. Good luck and happy shredding!
